OHV & Off-Road Trails in Bear Lake
The Bear Lake Valley and Logan Canyon boast hundreds of miles of ATV trails and an abundance of motorized OHV recreational opportunities. The backcountry surrounding Bear Lake is spectacular with thick groves of pines and aspens, colorful wildflowers, alpine lakes, cascading waterfalls, rocky streams and tranquil off the beaten path fishing holes. Encounters with wildlife are common, from squirrels and chipmunks to deer and moose.
The best way to discover the beauty of Utah’s backcountry is on an off-road adventure, a Bear Lake activity perfect for the whole family to enjoy. The network of Bear Lake ATV trails cover a variety of terrain and range from easy beginners to challenging trails with steep drop-offs and edges. Bear Lake is a popular Utah OHV destination and riding location for ATVs and UTVs.
OHV Trails
Bear Valley & Logan Canyon OHV Trails
Bear Lake State Park does not allow ATVs or OHVs (off-highway vehicles) within the park areas, however there are hundreds of miles of ATV/OHV trails to explore in the surrounding mountains and beaches of Utah and Idaho. Access the trails of upper Logan Canyon via Garden City Canyon Trail or head to Hodges Canyon and Richardson Canyon fork to access the US Forest Service trails along Sinks Road.
There are 16 recommended OHV and ATV trails easily accessible from Bear Lake. The Garden City Canyon Trail takes you to the scenic Bear Lake Overlook, the Sinks Trail is lined with Douglas Firs and Aspens and leads to the deep limestone sinkholes and onto Peters Sink, one of the coldest places in the US!.
Old Ephraims Grave is another popular Utah OHV trail accessed from US Hwy 89 at Right Hand Fork Canyon Road. The rocky trail is spectacularly scenic and leads to the grave and granite memorial of Old Ephraim, a giant 10 ft grizzly that roamed the canyon in the early 20th century, harassing the sheep herders by eating their sheep.
Other prime ATV areas are South Eden Canyon on the east side of the lake, Temple Canyon on the west and Bloomington Canyon and Fish Haven Canyon Trail Head across the border in Idaho.

Riding Requirements & Regulations
ATVs/UTVs and Dirt Bikes may not ride on any State of Federal roadway, however are legal on our local streets. The following is required for the legal use of your off-road vehicle on the paved roads in and around the Bear Valley:
- Rear view mirror
- Turn signals
- Horn
- HI/Low beam headlight
- Taillight and brake light
- Registration and insurance on the vehicle
- Current license plate with off-road sticker
- Helmet for riders under 18 years of age
